Monthly
Pooja for Sri Ayyappan
"Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa"
|
Lord Ayyappan is a symbol of religious unity and communal harmony. Lord Ayyappa is also known as Hari Hara Putra, Dharma Shasta, and Manikantan. The episode of Ayyappa is described in "Brahmananda Purana,", and "Skandapurana. Sri Ayyappa or Hari-hara-Puthra is the divine avatar as a consequence of the union of Lord Mahavishnu's Mohini avatar and Lord Siva. Lord Ayyappa teaches us the scared principle of brotherhood to remain happy and peaceful. Truth, fidelity, devotion and hard work are His ways to kill evil. With these virtues his teachings transcend time and help to solve the riddles of human misery. When the human perception reaches the higher levels beyond the physical limitation, inner peace emerges with the protection by the recitation sound of Ayyappa. |

The
Eighteen Steps to the Path of Liberation: The eighteen steps of the The
first five steps represent the Five Senses m(Panchendriyas) ie
visual, auditory, olfactory, gustatory and tactile. These signify
theortal' nature of one's body. The next eight
steps represent the eight Ashtaragas viz Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha,
Madha, Maltsarya, Asooya, Dhumb(Love, Anger, Avarice, Lust, Pride,
Unhealthy Competition, Jealousy and Boast fulness). |
|
The
next three steps represent the three Gunas (nature-born qualities), Satv,
(perspicuity, discernment) , Rajas (activity, enjoyment) and Thamas
(inactivity, stupor). The
last two steps represent Vidya (Knowledge) and Avidya (Ignorance). It is
believed that, those who detache themselves from all these worldly
pleasure, can see Lord Ayyappa in real sense. It is considered that
after climbing up these eighteen steps reverently, one symbolically
detaches oneself from all the worldly ties that bind one physically and
mentally to the world . It is only then that a person will be in a
receptive condition to be in consonance with the concept of 'The
Ultimate Creator'. The
worship of Sri Ayyappa is believed to have originated in Kerala during
the eleventh or twelfth century but has greatly increased in popularity
over the past several decades. The original Special monthly Ayyappan Pooja will take
place on the third Friday of each month at the Perth Hindu temple. This
involves abishekam for Sri Ayappan, Deepa jothi Pooja, Archanas and the
singing of Harivarasanam. Devotees are encouraged to participate in this
special Ayyappan pooja and seek the blessing of Sri Dharma Sastha for
